New South Wales

Rebecca is sitting in Sydney Airport in the food court. I am taking advantage of the meal voucher given to us because the flight has been delayed.

I will back track a bit and write about our time in NSW.  It seems so long ago!

We got into Sydney, rented a car and off we went to the Blue Mountains. We stayed at a youth hostel in Katoomba.

We had not researched beforehand. What a pleasant surprise when we went exploring that next morning. The Blue Mountains and the Three Sisters were amazing!

We did several walks... first to a water falls

and the walk to the base of the Three Sisters we almost completed.... it was over 900 steps down and then those same back up... Scott and I did 804 of those steps and met some very nice people in the process.

After spending the morning at the Blue Mountains, we went to Mudgee where we ended up spending two nights and Christmas Day.  It was a good thing that we had opted for a cabin at the caravan park.  It rained.  I tried to dry my laundry outside, but it kept getting extra "rinses"!

Karen prepared a special Christmas meal for us.

Scott spent Boxing Day at the Dubbo location of the Taronga Zoo, while Karen and I explored Dubbo and then had a picnic lunch at a lake a bit out of town.

Next stop was Coonabarabran (coon-a-BAR-a-bran), a laid back town that sports the title of "Astronomy Capital of Australia".  We stayed at the John Oxley Caravan Park. Oxley was an Australian explorer and surveyor.

Next day, we spent some time in Tamworth, known for it's Country Music Festival. We had lunch at one of the several parks.

The next section of the Oxley Hwy is renowned for it's many waterfalls.

Next stop was Port Macquarie where we stayed at another YHA hostel, Ozzie Pozzie.

They offered inexpensive surfing lessons with free board and wet suit, so I wasted no time and signed up.  It meant meeting for breakfast at 5 AM and being bussed to the beach for 5:30AM.  Well worth the effort!

Making our way to Sydney we had stops along the way and stayed overnight in Swansea.

We made it to Sydney.  Thank you Angie and John for letting us stay at your place, showing us a bit of Sydney, taking us to Bondi Beach,,,"the beach" of Sydney and arranging a balcony from which to watch the Sydney New Years fireworks!

Scott and I also visited the Sydney location of the Taronga Zoo.
