Alice Springs, Uluru and Kings Canyon

Melbourne to Alice Springs

First on the agenda was to rent a van. On the advice of a random stranger, we changed from our Budget rental to a Wicked Camper van! Clunky shifting with your left hand!
We got a bonus with the van... a million zillion ants!  It is maybe two weeks later and Rebecca is still finding ants in my bag... have infected New South Wales with them!
But a hilarious van, nonetheless.

We camped the first night at Erlunda.  It was very warm...hot.  Rebecca slept out under the stars.  Because it was far from nowhere, Scott was able to get great star photos.

First view of Uluru
Mount Connor

We visited Uluru during the day, at sunset and sunrise on the solstice..the end of the Mayan calender... the world did not end and we will have credit cards to pay off at the end of the trip! Oh well!  lol.

Next we went to Kings Canyon.
We did two hikes.  The short creek hike the first afternoon and then the longer Rim Walk the next morning.

No sign to warn of yellow ducks
in the middle of roads.....

Farewell Alice Springs
I am doing a barefoot run in each
State... the soil was too hot to run
during the day in the "red centre".
